V.O. Dojo Pro Fight Club

A pro workout and workshop with the INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS who do the hiring. Show them you’ve got the goods, then see who gets chosen — and why

V.O. Dojo Pro Fight Club makes the audition process completely transparent – on both sides of the glass.

What do working voiceover pros need?

High-Caliber Networking
Live Pro Fight Clubs start with a wine and cheese reception, where you can meet other working V.O. professionals from a variety of agencies!

High-Caliber Experience
Whether Live or Virtual, each Pro Fight Club features a guest director who is an industry decision-maker (creative director, copywriter, animation director, etc.). Each participant gets multiple takes, with individual feedback from the decision-maker, revealing the process of audition and callback. Everyone's a winner, but one voice is chosen.*

High Caliber Connection
Get to know the agencies and decision-makers who can hire us!

*DISCLAIMER: All our classes and events are strictly learning experiences. They are NOT an audition or employment opportunity. Industry pro guests are not expected to take home or otherwise access your demo or any other promotional materials. AGAIN: The presence of an industry professional is in no way a promise of employment, and The V.O. Dojo does not promise to procure employment for any participant.

COMMERCIALS with Creative Director:

Join us VIRTUALLY, Tuesday, September 25th, 6.30-8.30 pm.

We all know commercials is where the money is in VO - and there are loads of auditions in our in-boxes: but how do you make sure YOU’RE the one at the top of the pile - that YOU are the one that gets sent to the agency?

Come work with William Mericle, to find out what he listens for - what he hires - in Commercial VO!  He’s an incredibly experienced Creative, and knows the latest trends.

Over the years, William (Bill) has served as a Creative Director at Leo Burnett, Hal Riney & Partners, founded his own successful advertising agency (affiliated with RPA/Santa Monica) and -- most recently -- served as ECD of Havas Chicago.  Along the way he’s created award-winning work for brands like Seven Up, Subway, Bud Light, Kellogg’s, Potbelly, Sprint, John Deere, Cracker Barrel and Buddy Bills Bait Barn in Bloomington, Indiana (who for the cost of a few cases of beer, quadrupled their nightcrawler sales with his radio campaign).

He’s seen Mickey Rooney naked, directed Samuel L. Jackson in his first ever commercial (a VO for Gardenburger) and single-handedly talked an angry Teri Hatcher out of her mobile home after a particularly difficult shoot involving a stage full of 400 lb pigs.  They were trained pigs.  At least that’s what Bill told Teri.  And if he can do all that - he can certainly help you find your best commercial voice!

In addition to his work in advertising, Bill is part of an accomplished, Chicago-based screenwriting team.  Their first script, Away in a Manger, got them into some interesting meetings with the late John Hughes and a guy who, after making a fortune in porn, wanted to make a Christmas movie.   On the strength of their second script, they were signed by Jeff Robinov and sold scripts, did work for hire with Disney, New Americana Entertainment, James Productions, PizzleCo Pictures, Cappella Films, World Entertainment and Giant Pictures.  They co-directed a few short films and music videos, and currently have a script in development with Fred and Sandy Roos, but rest assured, they are not holding their breath.

Bill was also the founder of a now disbanded comedy troupe in Chicago, where he still lives with two boys, a lovely wife, an evil cat, a very old dog and a brand-new puppy.

So it’s safe to say he understands all the creative elements that go into making successful commercials - and he knows how to manage chaos.
