Third Rule of the Dojo: CONFIDENCE – Know you can do it, even though you haven’t tried.
Last time, we talked about identifying your INNER CRITIC and the power that comes from acknowledging and integrating them into your V.O. work.
As you continue to do so, you might notice that there is a lot more space for your INNER CHAMPION to come and spend time with you in the booth!
You know...that voice that knows how much you have to bring to this, gets how funny and true you are, makes everything seem easy and fun, and who probably got you started in the first place!
Your INNER CHAMPION is someone who also needs to be identified, acknowledged and actively invited to always have a place at your side every time you step up to the mic.
And every time you have meeting with an agent, or send an letter out to a potential new client, or start going after a new genre of V.O. work...or do anything to put yourself forth in you V.O. business.
Your INNER CHAMPION is the embodiment of The Third Rule of the Dojo: CONFIDENCE — Know You Can Do It Even Though You Never Tried.
As a kick-boxer and as a human, I was deeply moved by the passing of Muhammad Ali this month.
He was the ultimate champion…his power and grace came from his ease... that came from his relentless focus, hard work, and most of all his BELIEF in himself — and his uncompromised gift of bringing his voice into the world.
He said he was great even before he knew he was.
As you go about your voiceover work— get to know your INNER CHAMPION and cultivate that confidence as you bring your voice into the world.
Take a few minutes today to identify your INNER CHAMPION…give them a name, do a drawing or find an image of them, and take it into the booth with you! Share it on the VO Dojo Facebook page!
But how your INNER CRITIC and your INNER CHAMPION work together is what really becomes the fuel that moves for your V.O. work forward…we will talk about this Internal V.O. Locomotive next time!
