Stop Fighting Yourself: How to Get Your Inner Critic Working FOR You
by Tish Hicks – Master Sensei, The VO Dojo
Last time we discussed your Inner Critic and the myriad ways s/he can stop you from doing your best.
Here is a three-step process to activate the Second Rule of the Dojo: Leave your Inner Critic Outside the Booth –
- Identify
- Acknowledge
- Integrate
- Identify - See what happens if you give the voice the voice a name, so you can start talking to them when they start talking to you.
- Acknowledge - When they do talk to you, get in the habit of asking what it is they would like to share with you.
- Integrate - Thank them and ask them to step out of the booth. Incorporate their notes that are helpful so they know they've been heard and then proceed with your next take without them. The internal work we do is as if not more important than anything else we do in VO!
Would love to meet your inner critic!
Feel free to name, draw and introduce your inner critic on the Dojo FB page!
We will add them to the gallery here and you can add them as a positive and valuable part of your team!
